Montmarault,
take a break in a Village Étape
77 - that's the number of Villages Etapes you'll find on your holiday route.
Montmarault, a town with a population of around 1,500, is one of them, right in the heart of the Bourbonnais and even right in the heart of France, conveniently located at the crossroads of the east-west axis (A79 / Route Centre Europe Atlantique - RCEA) and the north-south axis (A71, Clermont-Ferrand/Paris).
You'll find all the services you need: accommodation, restaurants and shops to make life easier!
You can find Montmarault on the Villages Etapes website, as well as the Bourbonnais towns of Lapalisse , Varennes-sur-Allier and Dompierre-sur-Besbre .

A CLEARLY IDENTIFIABLE LOGO
You can spot the Villages Etapes logo on the roads of France, so you can be sure of finding accommodation there whatever the time of day you arrive, and of finding food shops or more useful facilities such as chemists, petrol stations, etc. during the day.
SAINT-ETIENNE CHURCH
This much-revamped church features modillions with chips, masks and geometric designs dating from the 13th century. The bell tower dates from the 18th century. A 15th-century font bears the arms of the Dukes of Bourbon.
On site, a leaflet presents a remarkable painting: "Saint Michael slaying the dragon" (MH), a copy by Raphael.
BOUTIQUE DES PRODUITS DE L'ALLIER
As well as the usual food shops, and a shop selling bulk produce, you'll find a shop selling products from the Allier in Montmarault.
Founded in 2003, its aim is to show off producers and creators (crafts and arts and crafts) from near Montmarault and the Allier department. A number of producers from the Puy-de-Dôme are also present.
You'll find terrines, condiments, cakes, honey, St-Pourçain beers and wines (in moderation), natural soaps, products made from recycled textiles, beautiful books on the region, hiking maps and guides, and much more.
Everything you need to treat yourself by bringing back gourmet souvenirs of your holidays, or simply to treat yourself.
The shop has the 'Allier Bourbonnais Produits' label.
